The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category May Address This Issue

Each time a prominent honors show approaches, one notices an outcry for the addition additional classifications to acknowledge overlooked contributions and satisfy the spirits of followers dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are board games, this being someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward since similar to blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification backing this proposal remains most pressing above others. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Classifying creative works is not a science; it’s very subjective, and it will always generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why cinema institutions don’t do it. Yet it remains a necessary evil within the realm of gaming, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards presently include genre categories for Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these classifications actually cover a lot of ground, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. No appropriate category exists to put them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. What category would fit them between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers launched regularly lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition in any category that year
  • A different innovative game was excluded in 2019
  • A beloved organization game was overlooked recently
  • Only a few puzzle games scraped into small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're compact experiences, but the art of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Well-known matching games stand as most engaged experiences in the world continuing this trend for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience rivals well-known building titles claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it also contends for best game of all time. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and engaging across multiple categories.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. You could fill multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these include experiences that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators are working at the challenging frontier of video game design, producing among the purest expressions of the video game form. Comparable to film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait 35 years.
