Trump's System of Punishment and Favor

The ex-president's intense appetite for revenge has swiftly transformed into a structured apparatus. Over the year since his election, the chief executive's anger and impulses have taken on the guise of government actions in ways comparable to historical dictatorial systems. Government personnel who fail to comply are summarily dismissed and replaced by supporters. Opposing figures who question him face prosecution, judicial process and sanctions. Opponents have been categorized under presidential directives as “anti-American”, “against faith communities” and “anti-capitalist”, and menaced with legal action as “security threats”.

Federal Agencies Restructured

Every situation involving legal action of critics and immunity for loyalists exhibits its own distinct characteristics. But, regardless of their individual form, they represent examples of what has developed as a deliberate technique. Those incidents are far from random. Trump's cleansing of DoJ lawyers and Federal Bureau of Investigation officials, accompanied by his placement of supporters in key posts, began quickly, quickly took on a consistency, and has now been molded into a system. DoJ and the Federal Bureau have been remade into political bodies under his explicit orders to implement his directives. Wrongdoing has been rendered normal. This is the retribution system.

Management is focused with punishing the chief's perceived opponents than they are with protecting our national security.

Inside the System

The origin of this mechanism has been exposed in the court filing of multiple previous high-ranking Federal Bureau officials lodged in late summer in the judicial system in Washington against FBI director Kash Patel and attorney general a key figure for wrongful dismissal in “a campaign of payback against them for what the accused considered to be a failure to demonstrate sufficient devotion”. According to the filing that Brian Driscoll, the previous temporary head, describes a conversation in which the director “freely acknowledged the impropriety of his actions”.

Driscoll had sought to shield law enforcement officers from being fired, the lawsuit alleges. He told him that “White House figures” – interpreted by Driscoll to be the White House and justice department – had directed him to remove everyone who they identified as having participated in a law enforcement case against the president. The complaint continues: “The director clarified that he had to terminate the people his superiors told him to fire, because his ability to retain his own role was contingent on the removal of the agents who were involved in matters involving the President. He commented that there was no way he or him could do to stop these or any other terminations, because ‘the agency attempted to put the President in prison and he hasn't forgotten it.’” Once Driscoll told him he was violating the agency's own regulations, he supposedly said “he understood that and he knew the essence of the immediate dismissals were probably unlawful”.

Extensive Effects

Following the director's reported admission to the official, the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau have been gutted and repurposed for Trump's revenge apparatus. Multiple of the bureau's senior executives were terminated or compelled to leave in the first days of the administration. Approximately thousands of legal professionals at the department have agreed to a “voluntary departure plan”. No fewer than multiple government attorneys, among them those in the southern district of New York, resigned in dissent over what they considered as political interference in withdrawing the criminal prosecution against the New York City mayor, a political figure, in exchange for his assistance with Trump's federal agency arrests of foreign nationals. The public integrity section of the department, which manages misconduct investigations, has been reduced to minimal staff. The civil rights division has been devastated: 70% of its personnel has departed. 33% of executives at the justice department have quit. The unit implementing environmental law has seen departures of 50% its supervisors.

Incentives and Penalties

Concerning the Adams case, the temporary lawyer for the NY office, the official, quit in objection against what she described as the “trade-off”. A key figure, Trump's “border czar,” was present as the implementer with the mayor on television to declare: “If he doesn't come through, I'll reappear in New York City.”. And, another figure, earlier the justice department figure and a ex-lawyer, who arranged the agreement, was given an appellate federal judgeship, a possible pathway to the supreme court.

His exemption for offenses committed while in power, provided by the remarkable decision of the GOP-led on the highest court, thus blocking his prosecution over the Capitol riot and preserving his electoral prospects for the 2024 election, is the cornerstone on which he relies to shield his supporters. With such immunity, he has been empowered to authorize corruption. The effect of the court judgment infuses his administration and the political party thoroughly. Trump v United States has metastasized. In the words of the former president's White House counsel he commented about the Watergate
